Cars hit the track
On June 3 the official FIA Formula E teams ran their cars for the very first time at Donington Park. Though it was a cold and wet day, all seven of the confirmed drivers took to the track to test their Spark-Renault SRT-01E. The driver line-up included new Andretti Autosport signing Frank Montagny, who said, “The car is very special and honestly I have had a smile on my face since the first lap I stepped into it and I still can’t stop.”
Second set of cars on schedule
The second set of Formula E cars were delivered to Donington Park on schedule by DHL on June 17. The teams are now stripping down and rebuilding the cars ahead of the first official test on July 3 and 4.
Media accreditation opens
As public interest grows so too does that of the media. On June 13 the FIA Formula E Championship officially launched the media accreditation process for the inaugural 2014/2015 season. “To date, the level of global media interest in the FIA Formula E Championship has been extremely high,” Tom Phillips, Formula E press officer.
Punta del Este ePrix circuit revealed
Six months from now Formula E will race the streets of Punta de Este in Uruguay. The Punta del Este ePrix circuit was revealed to the public just three days ago. The 2.8-kilometer track features 20 turns along the city’s picturesque harbor and has been nicknamed the Monte Carlo of South America. The beaches are sure to make a beautiful backdrop for this challenging race.
