DHL Modena Volley win Italian volleyball championship

Just a few weeks after securing the Italian Cup title, DHL Modena Volley has won the Italian league as well. It comes at the end of a nearly flawless season of league play that saw the team claim three domestic titles overall.

We could hardly have picked a better season to start our partnership with DHL Modena Volley – ever since we started working together in October, 2015, the team just seems to keep on winning!

The most recent achievement of Italy’s most successful volleyball squad was lifting the trophy as winners of the SuperLega, the country’s top flight volleyball league.

The last league match was definitely a nail-biter. After Modena trailed two sets to one against Perugia, the team forced the full five sets and won to wrap up the team’s first title in 14 years.

It was a difficult but beautiful game. When we caught up at 2-2, we were determined to win. It’s a wonderful celebration that fans have been waiting for so many years – we could not spoil such an opportunity.

DHL Modena Volley’s Luca Vettori

The win marks Modena’s 12th league title – an Italian record. February’s Italian Cup win was also their 12th title in that competition – another national record! Earlier in the season, Modena was also crowed the winner of the Italian SuperCup, another domestic competition that the team has won twice.

For Vettori – and his Modena teammates Matteo Piano and Salvatore Rossini – the next big goal is already in sight: they’ll head to Rio with the Italian national team this summer to compete in the Olympics.

Based in the ancient city of Modena in the heart of northern Italy, DHL Modena Volley is one of the most highly-decorated teams in Europe, with thirteen European titles including four CEV Champions League wins. Three titles in a single season is a great way for DHL to start off our partnership with the team – we can’t wait to see what’s in store next season!
