Moving Team GB to Sochi

With the 2014 Olympic Winter Games underway in Russia, we’ve already seen many moving moments on the snow and ice – and we are certain to see more. One important move for the British Olympic Association took place way before the Games began: transporting their kits and equipment to Sochi.

These are the moments we live for. In logistics, there’s nothing better than moving amazing, world-class events – events that move us, too! We take pride in knowing that when we do our job, the athletes can focus entirely on doing theirs.

“DHL is recognized as a world leader in logistics and to have their support of Team GB in Sochi invaluable.” (Bill Sweeney, Chief Executive Officer of the British Olympic Association)

Before the Olympic flame was lit and Russia’s first Winter Games were underway, we were on the move to ensure Team GB was fitted out and ready for competition. As the Official Team GB Logistics Partner of the British Olympic Association, we shipped a total of eight tons of supplies and equipment more than 5,500 miles (8,800 kilometers) from Stockport, UK to the Olympic Village in Sochi for Britain’s athletes. We also played an integral role in supporting “kitting out” week in Stockport, where the athletes received with their all-important equipment for the first time.

Moving Team GB was a complex, large-scale operation and we pulled out all the stops to ensure that the athletes had everything they need for a successful Games.

Now that we’ve done our job, we get to watch the world’s best athletes do theirs. That’s what it’s all about.

Good luck Team GB!
