Finalists for New Zealand Design Competition Announced
Despite tough competition this year, three finalists for the 2013 DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship have been announced.
A star cast of judges, including iconic designer Margi Robertson of NOM*D and Plume, Max Fashions CEO John Kelly, DHL’s Megan Wildermoth and Fashion Industry New Zealand (FINZ) Chairman Paul Blomfield, narrowed the entry field by analyzing not only the brands' designs, but also their business plans and ideals for global expansion.
In addition to receiving a freight credit and consulting on how best to export abroad, the winner will get a sought-after meeting with the international luxury online retailer www.my-wardrobe.com.
Finalists include Blak, who've already been cooperating with Top Shop to stock on their concession floor; Commoners, which were chosen on the strength of their marketing campaign and design aesthetic; and Meadowlark, a jewelry design team that's grown big in their native New Zealand.
“We were delighted with the calibre of entrants, but the chosen three are impressive in the New Zealand fashion scene and have demonstrated strong export potential in terms of design and strategy,” says Megan Wildermoth, national strategic account manager(fashion and textiles) at DHL Express New Zealand.
The winner of the DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship will be announced at an awards event and fashion installation at 6.30pm on Tuesday 12 November in Auckland.
