Go Green, Race Yellow – DHL Out Ahead on Carbon Reporting
Committed to delivering sustainable innovation and a future that sees accelerated innovation in e-mobility and green logistics, DHL has introduced a unique carbon reporting feature – an industry first.
Joining forces with the new FIA Formula E Championship in 2013 was a logical step in DHL’s green evolution. With our proven 30-year track record in motorsports logistics, we are not only piloting the behind-the-scenes logistics race fueled by the most efficient technology and processes available today, we are also committing to the same future as Formula E – one that sees accelerated innovation in e- mobility and city logistics.
“By implementing the report feature in our already existing tracking tools, we get ahead of competition and offer our customers individual reports that are easy to access,” said Roger Crook, CEO DHL Global Forwarding, Freight.
The race to the green finish line will be a long one filled with many hairpin turns and require many precision pitstops and high-speed passing maneuvers. Out ahead of the pack, DHL recently hit the pits for a first-of-its-kind adjustment to its online tracking system and raced out of the pit lane as the industry’s first company to include an automatic carbon footprint reporting feature as part of its track and trace system. Air and ocean freight customers are now able to see the carbon footprint of their shipments within DHL’s web-based services ‘DHLi Public Tracking’ and ‘Active Tracing’.

“To have a logistics partner like DHL, which is an extremely active partner in terms of environmental concerns, helps to counterbalance that effect. So we are really happy with this partnership because it allows us first of all to deliver all our cars around the world on time, which is a major undertaking, and secondly to do it using the greenest route possible.” (Alejandro Agag, CEO of Championship promoter Formula E Holdings)
Formula E is certainly pleased: “Our weak point, in terms of carbon emissions, is transporting all our hardware around the world,” says Alejandro Agag, CEO of Championship promoter Formula E Holdings. “To have a logistics partner like DHL, which is an extremely active partner in terms of environmental concerns, helps to counterbalance that effect. So we are really happy with this partnership because it allows us first of all to deliver all our cars around the world on time, which is a major undertaking, and secondly to do it using the Greenest route possible.”
This isn’t the only green service offered by DHL Global Forwarding, Freight – the air and ocean freight specialist within DHL. We also supply carbon reports, carbon offsetting options and our advanced “Carbon Dashboard” – a powerful supply chain efficiency visualization and simulation tool, not to mention a number of customer-specific optimization projects currently underway.
