DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO

Hat-trick of wins for Nico Rosberg in Monaco! But the fastest lap of the 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DE MONACO went to someone else: Daniel Ricciardo secured the sixth fastest lap of the season in his Red Bull.

Ricciardo switched to another fresh set of tires shortly before the end of the safety car period in order to hunt down Lewis Hamilton. While doing so, the Australian burned the fastest lap of race day into the Monaco asphalt on lap 74 of 78, posting a time of 1:18.063 minutes.

“I had some fun in the last few laps trying to get close to Hamilton and Vettel to fight for a podium position,” said Ricciardo. “I knew we were in a position to attack in the end which made it exciting, I think. The team worked well, Dany let me past to have a crack at the podium and I gave back the place on the last lap when I couldn’t get past Hamilton.”

Lewis Hamilton still heads the overall standings in the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award. The world championship leader has set the fastest race lap in half of the previous races, three in all. Apart from Lewis, his teammate Nico Rosberg, Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen and Ricciardo just now have entered the record books with one fastest lap each during 2015.

Formula 1 moves from the Principality to North America for the next overseas race, the 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA, which will be held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal from June 5th-7th.

As with all the races, you can again play the DHL Fastest Lap Game on Facebook and pick the driver who will set the fastest lap. Why not sign in now and join in!
