The Asia Tour 2026

As the 2025/26 season enters its final stretch, the world-renowned Gewandhausorchester and Music Director Andris Nelsons are preparing for one last major highlight — an extensive Asia tour with performances in six cities. Following a brief opening leg in Europe and the journey onward to Asia, the tour will make two stops in Taiwan in May before continuing to Shanghai, Wuxi, Beijing and, finally, Hong Kong, where the tour concludes in June 2026.

The program features works by some of classical music’s greatest composers, spanning several centuries — including Richard Wagner, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Dmitri Shostakovich, Robert Schumann and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Of course, the musicians bring far more than just sheet music on tour. As the world’s largest touring professional orchestra, the Gewandhausorchester travels with around six and a half tons of equipment valued at several million euros. This includes more than 100 valuable, in some cases irreplaceable, instruments, as well as concert attire, music stands, the conductor’s podium and much more.

So the orchestra can focus entirely on the music, DHL handles the complex logistics behind the scenes. Since 2009, DHL has served as the orchestra’s Official Logistics Partner, transporting its valuable and highly sensitive cargo to destinations around the world.

A tour of this scale involves an extraordinary range of complex logistics operations — from planning and coordination to customs clearance, real-time tracking and temperature-controlled transport designed to protect the orchestra’s centuries-old instruments. That’s why preparations begin as early as 18 months before the tour even gets underway. Thanks to DHL’s logistics support, the musicians can focus on what they do best: bringing extraordinary music to concert halls around the world and creating unforgettable moments for audiences across continents and generations.
