DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA PIRELLI

Nico Rosberg hits back with his first win of the season – but the fastest lap in the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA PIRELLI goes to reigning champion and current leader in the world championship standings Lewis Hamilton

The Silver Arrows driver posted the fastest lap time of 1:28.270 minutes on Lap 54 with an average speed of 189.849 km/h. At that stage, he had overtaken Sebastian Vettel with a three-stop strategy and was hunting down team-mate Nico Rosberg.

"I think I pushed right until there were six laps to go and I was still 13 seconds away"

“Nico was 22 seconds ahead by the time I got onto my last stint and I had 15 laps to go so that was a huge amount of time for me to try and catch up,” said Hamilton. “I pushed very hard to see if I could have the pace on him in order to close it but it was than less than a second per lap really – on occasions sometimes a second. So I think I pushed right until there were six laps to go and I was still 13 seconds away, so after that I kind of realised that I should bring the car home and live to fight another day.”

After five races, Hamilton heads the overall standings of the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award with three fastest laps. Nico Rosberg and Kimi Räikkönen have each achieved one fastest lap so far this season.
