Fascination WTCC – Global Racing Series Revving Up
Less than a month to go before the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship gets underway and things are heating up. DHL is trackside once again in support of the door-to-door, bumper-to-bumper racing action.

“The World Touring Car Championship is a global racing series in every sense,” says Christian Danner, DHL’s Motorsports Expert.
The WTCC races on four different continents all over the world with an international cast of drivers ranging from young hotshots to ex-Formula 1 drivers. Two 60-km races at each of 12 events means there are two FIA World Championships up for grabs each year.

Real cars, real racing
“This is the most exciting championship,” says Tom Coronel of BMW Roal Motorsport 2013. “We race with four-door sedan cars like you see on the streets with a 1.6 turbo engine with about a 320 hp sequential gearbox, which means shifting up is pulling and shifting down is pushing.”
That’s right, WTCC sees muscle-bound versions of the sedans that any one of us could buy and drive every day clash on the race track in exciting battles. The high-octane action includes top speeds approaching 300 km/h and door-to-door clashes on the racetrack.

What’s new in 2014
This year will be the 11th season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. This year will see quite a few changes, with French car manufacturer Citroën entering the championship with three cars and Honda expanding to a four-car operation, to name a few. Notable on the driver side was 2012 World Touring Car Champion Robert Huff’s move from Team Münnich Motosport to Lada Sport nine-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb’s entry into the championship with Citroën Racing.

DHL was excited to be a part of the race action as Official Logistics Partner, managing the WTCC’s entire logistics including transport to and from the racetrack, paddock handling and customs clearance. With some 30 cars and tons of equipment, this is certainly a job for a global logistics expert like DHL.
