Today Manchester United take the pitch for what is arguably the biggest match of the season – the leg 2 quarter final against reigning champion Bayern Munchen. After the 1-1 draw in leg 1 at Old Trafford, a trip to the UEFA Champions League semifinal is up for grabs in Germany.

Bayern beware. After a brilliant show of support in the stands at Old Trafford and a determined display on the pitch, United’s 1-1 draw with Bayern Munchen means the Champions League quarterfinal tie is very much up for grabs.

And the boys from Old Trafford are riding into the matchup on a wave of confidence, having routed Newcastle 4-0 in Premier League action last weekend. Goals from Juan Mata, Javier Hernandez and Adnan Januzaj set up that splendid success.

“We have to make sure we take our chances and hopefully we can defend exactly as we did in the first leg.” (Reds Winger Ashley Young)

Defense was the key in leg 1 last week and United carried out their tactics precisely as planned.

“Our defenders deserve a lot of credit for the way they performed,” said Reds winger Ashley Young. “They put some important blocks in and stood strong, which was great to see. They’ve done that for many years and we know will need that again [today].”

Of course Young and his teammates are aware of Bayern’s great home record, but they understand that it’s important to concentrate on their own game to be successful.

“We have to make sure we take our chances and hopefully we can defend exactly as we did in the first leg,” says Young. “If we can build on what we showed on Tuesday night then I think we can get the right result.”

We think so, too, Ashley. And we’ll be united with the hundreds of millions of Reds fans around the world in support of you and the boys tonight.

Good luck United!
