It has been one epic journey. The trophy made its final stop this past Tuesday in Oslo, after visiting Istanbul, Copenhagen and Basel for the European leg of the tour. DHL is proud to have delivered Manchester United to the club’s fans around the world.

Former United defender Denis Irwin, who launched the tour back in October in Rio de Janiero, was on hand to share the coveted silverware with some life-long fans.

The Barclays Premier League trophy travelled 67,000 miles, visiting 23 countries and more than 30 cities since the tour began in Rio de Janeiro in late October.

In Oslo, Irwin met Jarle, a life-long fan whose 10-year-old son Jasper is also a fanatical United supporter. See Irwin signing a Norwegian United book for little Jasper in the photo gallery above.

Irwin also reminisced with former Tottenham goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt and gave a TV interview.

Basel
The scene was similarly moving on March 26 in Switzerland’s northwestern city on the Rhine. Die-hard, life-long Reds fans came out to Basel’s historic cathedral to meet Irwin and get a rare photo-op with the Barclays Premier League trophy.

Heinz, a member of the country’s only MU fan club, the “Swiss Devils,” got hooked on United while studying in the UK in the 60s. He tries to get to Old Trafford as often as possible.

Jim has been a United fan since he was eight years old and still remembers the first match he watched in 1979 against Liverpool. Now living with his wife and children in Switzerland, Jim travelled to Basel especially to meet Irwin and see the trophy. “I wouldn’t have missed this visit for the world,” he said.

Copenhagen
In the Danish capital on March 25 fans gathered at the 100-year-old Gefion Fountain on the harbor front to see Irwin and the silverware. With United facing Manchester City that evening, the ex-Reds defender was bombarded with invitations to join the fans to watch the match.

Supporters brought tons of memorabilia for Irwin to sign, including jerseys, autograph books, official United books and even a United tie!

Little 12-year-old local Rasmus felt like the luckiest boy alive when Irwin signed his legend card as well as his stuffed animal, which was decked out in a complete United kit!
