The Gewandhaus Orchestra Goes Green

A Green Orchestra, Gewandhaus Leipzig reduces its carbon emission

DHL supports the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig by offsetting the carbon emissions

Since 2009, DHL has been a proud supporter of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, partnering with them to ensure their invaluable instruments are able to accompany the world-renowned players as they take their talents abroad. All of the accoutrements for a traveling company – from the conductor’s baton and tailed tuxedo to the player’s bows and reeds – are handled with care by DHL as they make their way out of Leipzig and into some of the most beautiful concert halls in the world.

For the 2013 tour season, that transport is taking on a special tone, as the logistics movements for the scheduled stopovers in six different European cities will be handled in an especially environmentally-friendly way. Using DHL’s unique GOGREEN service, the carbon emissions from the entire transport – a total of seven tonnes – will be offset through investing into climate protection programs.

Tour Schedule 2013

Toblach, Italy: August 27
Ljubljana, Slovenia: August 28-29
Salzburg, Austria: August 31 & September 1
London, England: October 22-23 & 29-30
Paris, France: October 26-27 & November 01-02
Vienna, Austria: November 4-7

“We’re excited to be taking this new path with DHL. We’ve trusted their expertise to safely and securely get our sensitive instruments to our destinations while on worldwide concert tours. This green transport is like a feather in a cap – a nice accent on a valuable partnership,” said Professor Andreas Schulz, Director of the Gewandhaus Orcestra.

For its customers, DHL offsets the carbon emissions generated by the transports of goods via its GOGREEN service. The company invests in external climate protection projects like for example a water filtration charity in Cambodia or a biomass power plant in India.
