DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Spectacular home win for Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone: In front of 140,000 enthusiastic spectators, the Silver Arrows driver not only claimed a third career victory at the Home of British Motor Racing but also set the fastest race lap of the 2015 FORMULA 1 BRITISH GRAND PRIX.
This was despite an inauspicious beginning to his home race. Hamilton did not get off to the best of starts and immediately dropped from pole position to slot in behind the two Williams. For him and team-mate Nico Rosberg, the race then developed into a chase after Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton subsequently took the lead after the pit stops on Lap 22. He then proceeded to shake off his pursuers, posting the fastest lap of the Grand Prix (01:37.093 minutes) on Lap 29.
“I was chasing down the Williams,” said Hamilton. “It was very, very hard to get close and overtake. I got close enough on the first pit stop and came out ahead after a really good out-lap. I think overall it was just great teamwork. The team were continuously talking to me, and the tyres were feeling good, so I could have kept going for longer. But it was getting closer to the point that Williams hadn’t stopped and I was close enough... It was a real quick decision. Then I pushed like crazy on the out-lap and it hooked up a real nice lap. To come back out in front was a great feeling.”

With this fastest lap of the Silverstone race, Hamilton extended his lead in the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award. Now on four fastest laps, he is ahead of Kimi Räikkönen and Nico Rosberg who have each driven two fastest race laps so far this season.
The next race is the 2015 FORMULA 1 HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX which will be held on the weekend of 24th - 26th July.
