Australia's Charlotte Caslick and Scotland’s Robbie Fergusson win DHL Impact Player awards

Charlotte Caslick in action

Recently, the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series came to a dramatic conclusion at Paris’ Stade Jean Bouin stadium. Stars of the show were Australia's Charlotte Caslick and Scotland’s Robbie Fergusson, who were both named DHL Impact Players.

Caslick, who shone throughout the weekend, even racked up an incredible 72 points to set a new DHL Impact Player Award record. Taking the award by a single point, Fergusson notched up an impressive score of 50.

In a class of her own

Responsible for  35 carries and 32 tackles, Caslick stepped up to take the lead again and again and, never slowing for a moment, was always on hand to carry and tackle her heart out as her side made yet another Cup Final. Thanks to her incredible effort, Caslick has single-handedly raised the bar for future DHL Impact Players.

Caslick’s closest rival for the Award was Wales’ Jasmine Joyce with a score of 58 points. Joyce, whose impressive tally would normally have put her in contention to win the IPA Award, made 8 offloads, 25 carries and 9 breaks

French stars, Marjorie Mayans and Caroline Drouin also made the top 10, but were a long way behind Caslick’s incredible 72 point haul.

Despite a string of victories, Caslick’s Australia was beaten convincingly 33-7 by New Zealand in the Cup Final.

Robbie pulls it off

Despite a tough weekend in Paris, Scottish playmaker Robbie Fergusson managed to chalk up 50 points to win the IPA award by a single point.

Kicking the winning conversion against a shocked South Africa to secure a thrilling 14-12 win in the pool stages, Fergusson made 22 carries, 16 tackles and 6 breaks as he threatened in both defence and attack. He also made 6 offloads. A huge asset to his team, Fergusson showed his awareness and ability to get the ball out of contact throughout the game.

Close on Fergusson’s heals for the Award was England 7s star Harry Glover with 48 points.

After losing the Challenge Cup Quarter Final to Wales 28-5, Scotland beat Samoa 24-19 in the 13th place semi final before losing to Kenya 21-20 in a thrilling 13-place final.
