Trophy Tour Latin America Wraps Up

The Latin American leg of Manchester United’s epic Trophy Tour, delivered to the world by DHL, came to a close in Mexico City this past weekend.

Reds around the world are celebrating Manchester United’s record-breaking 20th Premier League Championship. The United Trophy Tour, delivered by DHL, is underway and will travel 67,000 miles to visit over 30 cities in 24 countries, ensuring English football’s most prized silverware is shared with the world’s greatest supporters.

Brazil
The Tour began in Latin America, kicking off in Rio de Janeiro on October 30, where United legend Denis Irwin took the Barclays Premier League trophy to visit the iconic Christ The Redeemer statue. Hundreds of Reds’ fans came out for a unique photo opportunity with the Trophy and its chaperone. United later visited the famous Maracana Stadium, venue for the 2014 World Cup final, as well as taking the silverware into the community, stopping in the city’s Morro dos Prazeres favela.

From there Irwin escorted the trophy to Sao Paulo, where supporters got their fix of silverware at Ramos de Azevedo Square on November 1.

Chile and Ecuador
Treble-winning defender Irwin travelled next to Chile, where he and the Barclays Premier League trophy were the star attractions at a shopping center event in Chile's capital, Santiago, on November 5.

My son will never forget this day – it is a very special moment. Thank you for coming to Chile!

Scores of fans, all eager to get a glimpse of the silverware, meet a United legend and get a rare look at memorabilia from the Manchester United Museum, came out to greet the Reds party and were thrilled by the experience.

Santiago resident Gonzalo Osorio said: "I think this type of event is the best in the world because Manchester United is an ambassador for the greatest sport in the world. My son will never forget this day – it is a very special moment. Thank you for coming to Chile!"

Swiftly back in the air again, Irwin made the 2,200-mile trip to Ecuador to display the trophy at Guayaquil’s iconic Hemiciclo de la Rotonda monument, where a police brass band helped create a carnival atmosphere for the fans in attendance.

Mexico
The Latin American leg of the United Trophy Tour came to a close in Mexico City on November 9. Denis Irwin continued to chaperone the Barclays Premiere League trophy on this final stop, which saw the two travelling companions greeted by hoards of excited fans at a shopping centre in the Satélite area of the city.

The Reds also staged an event in the borough of Cuajimalpa at the Cacalote Sports Centre, which was founded to help young and vulnerable members of the community to play sport. Among those who attended were young footballers from Street Soccer Mexico, an initiative for the homeless, socially excluded and those living in poverty, members of Mexico’s successful Homeless World Cup men’s and women’s teams, and the British Embassy and British Council. Irwin presented a signed United shirt to the mayor of Cuajimalpa, Adrián Rubalcava Suárez, as a thank you for inviting the club, and the duo took penalties against each other.

On to Asia
The United Trophy Tour moves on to Asia at the start of December, taking in Jakarta, Taipei, Seoul, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Exact dates and more information will be available soon here at DHL InMotion and at ManUtd.com.
