The 1995/96 season was a remarkable one. Manchester United became the first team ever to win the Double twice. That season’s squad was arguably the club’s strongest ever.

Going into the Everton match in February 1996, United were unbeaten in their 24 previous home matches and were in 2nd place. It was a cold evening in Manchester with flurries of snow and a frosty reception for the returning Kanchelskis.

“Coming out of that tunnel at Old Trafford is always an amazing feeling. For some reason, when it was a night match, it felt that much better.” (Andrew Cole)

It was a must-win match in the pursuit of the title and certainly one of the club’s #LegendaryMoments. In this series of videos, three of United’s greatest legends – Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister and Andrew Cole – share a few moments from this time in the club’s history.

“They made us work for our win.” (Andrew Cole)
