Leicester City FC is going global!

DHL has been supporting Leicester City Football Club’s phenomenal global growth throughout the club’s most successful season.

It was an incredible season – a Cinderella story! Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) – the ultimate underdog given 5,000-1 odds to win the title at the start of the season – not only lifted the Barclays Premier League trophy, The Foxes finished the season ten points ahead of second-placed Arsenal. The team’s manager, Claudio Ranieri, called it a “memorable season.”

Leicester City’s memorable march to the championship has seen a fast growing following around the world, with global exports of the team’s merchandise more than doubling during the 2015/16 season.

It was brilliant to see the team’s hard work and dedication pay off this season.

Ian Flanagan, Commercial Director, LCFC

Throughout this historic season, we have supported LCFC’s exciting global growth as the club’s Official Logistics Partner by exporting the club’s merchandise to a whopping 66 countries: more than double those exported to at the start of the season.

America is now Leicester City’s biggest export destination. Interest in LCFC has more than doubled and four times more shipments have been made to the U.S. than Australia, the next most popular destination. Japan is the biggest growth market with revenue increasing by more than 30 times (3,290%). Revenue from Italy is a startling 13 times greater (growth of 1,388%) than it was at the start of the season. And due to astounding global demand, LCFC sold out of 2015/16 kit in March.

Watching Leicester City Football Club lift the Premier League trophy was a great moment in sporting history.

Support for the team’s Italian manager, Claudio Ranieri, and Japanese player Shinji Okazaki in their home nations has got fans in these countries vying for a piece of the action but you will find support for Leicester wherever you are. Since the start of this incredible season, DHL has exported the club’s products to brand new locations and LCFC hotspots such as Greenland, Kuwait and Mexico.

“Watching Leicester City Football Club lift the Premier League trophy was a great moment in sporting history,” said Phil Couchman, CEO of DHL Express UK&I. “It has been a real honour for DHL to support LCFC on their journey to the top of the league and to ensure that the club can reach its fans wherever they may be. We even had to expedite an emergency shipment of the new season’s shirts from Asia to meet demand in the UK! As exports of LCFC products continue to rise, I am confident their global success will continue.”

“It was brilliant to see the team’s hard work and dedication pay off this season,” said Ian Flanagan, Commercial Director at Leicester City Football Club. “And thanks to the success on the pitch, we’ve had great success for the business too. DHL’s investment in innovative logistics solutions means that we are able to fulfil rising demand from fans for merchandise in a diverse range of countries. DHL has been a valued partner of the Club since 2012 and we look forward to working closely with DHL in the years ahead as LCFC’s global profile continues to grow. As our team becomes more globally renowned, it is important we continue to reach our fans wherever they are.”

We don’t doubt that The Foxes will continue to go global and we’re more than happy to help them do it.
