Our partnerships with music festivals, like the Beethoven Fest in Bonn, Germany and the Istanbul Jazz Festival have given us great insight into the goings-on behind the scenes of a large musical showcase. And as Official Logistics Partner to the Leipzig-based Gewandhausorchester, we’ve learned the secrets of a successful partnership while on the road.
While all musical instruments require special handling due to their sensitive nature, over the course of our five-year partnership with the Gewandhausorchester, we’ve becoming especially equipped at handling tight turnarounds while still keeping our – and the invaluable instruments – cool.
That’s why when we got the call to deliver nearly 34,000 pounds of instruments from marching bands in the US and Panama to the London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1, 2014, we knew exactly how to handle the matter.
The shipments started on December 16, 2013, when DHL collected 1,327 pieces of equipment including snare drums and tubas from over 20 high school bands to begin their overseas journey from the hub in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. It was the calm right before a major storm in the UK, but everything arrived on time and in perfect condition – giving the high school students a chance to tune up and practice before their big day began in Piccaddilly.
The parade got the New Year off on the right note -- 2014 is shaping up to be a musical sensation for both DHL and our culture partnerships. With an Asian tour in the works for the Gewandhausorchester and festivals throughout the summer to delight even the most selective music aficionado, there is plenty in store, so stay tuned to DHL In Motion to stay up to date on all the musical movements.
