DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 SHELL BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
The battle for the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award is hotting up. Nico Rosberg gained ground on front runner Lewis Hamilton by posting his third fastest lap of the season in the 2015 FORMULA 1 SHELL BELGIAN GRAND PRIX.
Rosberg had big plans for the first race after the summer break. From second place on the grid, he hoped to overtake his Silver Arrow team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the start or on the long run into Turn 5. It was not to be. Rosberg did not get off the line well and even dropped back down the field. He then went on a charge which soon saw him back in second place. Rosberg posted his fastest lap of 1:52.416 minutes on Lap 34 on the soft tire compound while endeavoring to close the gap on Hamilton after his second pit stop on Lap 31.
"Unfortunately I messed up the start," said Rosberg. "Because of this I had to play catch up, which worked out well to a point. I managed to be second again and also was able to close the gap to Lewis a bit - but I didn't get a chance to come within overtaking distance. The car felt great on options. I was doing qualifying laps lap after lap, trying to hunt down Lewis, but he did a great job and it wasn't enough. He deserved the win today."

Rosberg has reduced the deficit on team-mate Hamilton at the top of the DHL Fastest Lap Award with his fastest lap at Spa-Francorchamps. Hamilton leads with four fastest race laps to Rosberg's three after eleven race weekends.
Drivers will get the next chance to secure a point towards the DHL Fastest Lap Award in the 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza on the weekend of September 4th-6th.
