DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX
Second title win in succession: Mercedes secured the Formula 1 constructors’ world championship with a win in the 2015 FORMULA 1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX, just like last year. While Hamilton sped to his ninth victory of the season, Sebastian Vettel posted the fastest lap of the race while hunting down the British driver with an average speed of 210.378 km/h.
Hamilton drew level with Vettel in the list of all-time greats by achieving his 42nd grand prix win, but the German could not resist a little joke with the winner soon after the race, for the fastest lap went to the Ferrari star, who kept closing on Hamilton in the closing stages of the race. Vettel posted best time two laps before the end. On lap 51, Vettel hustled his Ferrari around the 5.848 kilometer Sochi Autodrome in a time of 1:40.071 minutes.
“The car was fantastic and just kept getting better. At some point I was hoping there was a slight chance to catch Lewis but he had so much pace in hand, I think he wasn’t really pushing at the end,” said Vettel. “Lewis deserved the win, but we were maybe closer than some had expected.”
This was Sebastian Vettel’s first fastest race lap of the season. During his career, he has now notched up 25 fastest laps, but that changes nothing at the top. Lewis Hamilton still heads the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award. With six fastest laps, the Silver Arrow driver leads from Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo, who have posted three each.
Drivers will have another chance to set the fastest lap at the 2015 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX in Austin, Texas. The fourth-last race weekend of the 2015 season takes place from October 23rd to 25th at the Circuit of the Americas.
As with all the races, you can again play the DHL Fastest Lap Game on Facebook and pick the driver who will set the fastest lap. Why not sign in now and join in!
