DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO D’ITALIA
Lewis Hamilton was unstoppable at Monza last weekend. The Silver Arrows driver clocked the fastest time in every single session of the 2015 FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO D’ITALIA to take pole position, the race win and the fastest lap.
Going into the first corner, Hamilton asserted himself against Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel who had started the race from third on the grid. Towards the end, the Mercedes driver had pulled out a lead of more than 20 seconds – a sufficiently wide margin to cruise home to his 40th Grand Prix victory under no pressure at all.
But shortly before the end, Hamilton received a message via team radio to push his car to the limit and extend the lead even further. No sooner said than done. On Lap 48, the reigning champion not only set the fastest time of the race on the Italian circuit (1:26.672 mins) but also became the only driver in the field to beat the 1 minute 27 mark. He went on to cross the finish line 25.042 seconds ahead of second-place Sebastian Vettel.
“This weekend has been just fantastic,” said Hamilton. “A perfect weekend for me – I can’t remember one like it. This race is so special for every driver. When you stand up on that podium, it’s so emotional. It’s a really proud moment to be up there in front of that sea of fans and to walk in the footsteps of so many great drivers who have won here. The balance wasn’t perfect for qualifying, but it was one of the best I’ve had in the race.” The reason for Hamilton’s furious final sprint was a potential penalty after the race, but this failed to materialise after all.

With his fifth fastest lap of the season, Hamilton has extended his lead in the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award. As in the world championship standings, his team-mate Nico Rosberg is in second place. He has set the fastest lap in three previous races this season.
From Monza, Formula 1 ships out to Singapore where the 2015 FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX will be held on the weekend of 18th - 20th September.
As with all the races, you can again play the DHL Fastest Lap Game on Facebook and pick the driver who will set the fastest lap. Why not sign in now and join in!
