DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX

A perfect end to a dream season. After winning his third world title in Austin, Lewis Hamilton received the DHL Fastest Lap Award for the second time in a row at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. With a total of eight fastest race laps this season, he took the win from team-mate Nico Rosberg, who triumphed in the 2015 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX.

The two Silver Arrows drivers battled it out at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, as in previous races. Rosberg defended his lead at the start, but Hamilton piled the pressure on his team-mate throughout the race. Since Rosberg was having a flawless race, Hamilton tried to pass the leader with a staggered pit stop ten laps after Rosberg on Lap 41.

The German noticed this tactic, however, and responded with his fastest lap of the race on Lap 37. But shortly after Hamilton's second stop just seven laps later, the reigning champion posted the fastest lap of the race under the floodlights of Yas Marina, a blistering 1:44.517 minutes.

"I am delighted to have won the DHL Fastest Lap Award again in 2015. It caps a phenomenal year for everyone in the Mercedes team. Winning the FIA Formula One™ Drivers' World Championship and the Constructors Title, and setting fastest lap eight times along the way - this all reflects the hard work and competitive spirit that define the team," said Lewis Hamilton.

With a total of eight fastest race laps, Hamilton managed to further improve his performance in the DHL Fastest Lap Award over last season. He recorded the fastest laps in 2015 in Australia, China, Spain, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Brazil and Abu Dhabi. Each time he posted a fastest lap in a race during the 2015 season, the Silver Arrows driver started from the front row and finished in either first or second place. Further proof that every detail counts - true to the saying: Great is in the detail.
