Spotlight on: Pria Kataaria Puri
A household name in her native India, Kuwait-based Pria Kataaria Puri dresses royalty and stars around the world with her edgy, elegant women’s wear.
Who’s That Girl?: Pria Kataaria Puri started her eponymous label in 1990 and hasn’t looked back since. Designer to royalty and stars both in her native India and abroad, the women’s wear couturier is a truly global stylist. Now based in Kuwait, Puri got her training in San Francisco, where her Occidentally-inspired line of evening wear was first recognized with its own show at the San Francisco Fashion Centre. Since then, she’s gone on to win the ‘Bharat Yuva Ratna’ award along with ‘Bharat Vikas Award’ and had her gowns featured in both Bollywood and Hollywood.
International Elegance: A combination of East meets West, “Occidental couture meets cruise line,” Pria’s collections add mystique to modern style by incorporating vibrant colors, vintage prints, and fine heritage embroidery. “Elegance doesn’t mean being noticed, it means being remembered,” says the designer, whose label represents the multi-cultural, multi-faceted women of today who believe in clothing as timeless works of art.
New Look: Always looking to expand her horizons, Pria took her talents to a new drawing board – the male figure -- for the Winter/Festive 2013 collection showing sponsored by DHL at Lakme Fashion Week in August. It was her first take on designing ready-to-wear for jetsetting men as well as women, and it left nothing to be desired. “My collection is hugely inspired by and targeted for the women and men who literally run the world. They work hard, but play harder,” says the glamorous designer.
