London Fashion Week: the DHL Fashion Potential Award 2019 goes to Naeco

The DHL Fashion Potential Award 2019 goes to the Zak Johnson from Naeco. The winner of the prestigious award for promising up-and-coming British designers was chosen by a jury of experts and announced at London Fashion Week.

The winner was chosen by an expert jury comprising industry leaders from across the industry, incl. representatives of the BFC and DHL. The decision between the four finalists Emile Vidal Carr, NAECO, Olivia Rubin and Trakke was based on a presentation of their business plans at London Fashion Week. Previously, the finalists had prevailed with their creations and business model in a field of over 350 entries.

“This year, we were again thrilled by the creative and entrepreneurial achievements showcased by the applicants,” said Abi Brodie, VP of Sales – Ecommerce at DHL and expert jury representative: “It wasn’t easy selecting our four finalists from such an impressive field of candidates and then picking a winner. But we are convinced that in Naeco we have yet another award winner who more than does justice to this award.”

Naeco were born out of a passion for the ocean and sports around it. They set out to create shorts that were strong, made from ocean plastic but also looked smart so you could walk straight from the beach to a café. Their drive and passion to make a difference are at the heart of everything they do. Currently removing plastic from the ocean to make their own yarn and soft eco-friendly fabrics that are 100% recyclable.

The DHL Fashion Potential Award has been presented annually by DHL in partnership with the British Fashion Council as part of London Fashion Week since 2017. It comes with a prize of £20,000 and is intended to help talented young designers expand their business. DHL also assists the award winner with transport and logistics services. DHL has been a partner and logistics provider to London Fashion Week since 2008 and has also maintained a partnership with the British Fashion Council for many years. DHL has decades of expertise in fashion logistics, and advises and assists many well-known companies in the industry.
