Did You Know? A Few Fashion Week Facts
Nearly every day, there is a Fashion Week taking place around the world – from the Big Four fashion capitals to lesser-known cities like Miami and Sydney. Both during and afterward, we see the pictures and videos splashed across magazines and social media but have you ever wondered about everything that’s involved in pulling those events off without a hitch?
As the Official Logistics Partner to 30 Fashion Week events spanning 15 cities, DHL works alongside a troupe of designers, models, hair stylists and make-up artists to ensure Fashion Week runs like clockwork and continues to hit the headlines for all the right reasons. But it doesn’t end there; DHL works year-round to ensure fashion operators get the logistics support they need to ensure they remain cutting edge in a vibrant marketplace.
Here, in numbers, is a peek behind the scenes of the fashion industry, one of its flagship events and the world of fashion logistics:
A runway show at Fashion Week lasts an average of 17 minutes. It takes around 6 minutes for a DHL courier to pick up a shipment from a customer. It takes 5 times as long (30 minutes) to prepare a model's hair for a catwalk show. It takes around 4 minutes for a DHL courier to deliver a shipment to a customer. It takes over 10 times as long (45 minutes) to put make-up on a model at Fashion Week. In the amount of time it takes for a model to walk the average catwalk, DHL will have delivered 613 shipments to customers around the world.
Every year 6,000 people work for over 200 days to build DHL-delivered fashion week events. It takes another 2,000 dedicated staff, crew and security personnel to produce these events
A typical Fashion Week lasts 4 days with 50 designers showing their collections and over 40 models walking the runway. The average weight of a designer’s collection is estimated at 450kg, the weight of two Bengal tigers
