Behind the Scenes at StyleNite

After nearly six months of planning, it’s hard to believe the big night is almost here!

MICHALSKY StyleNite, that is, the be-all, end-all runway event that concludes Berlin Fashion Week each season. It’s a happening that everyone wants to be a part of, but with limited capacity at the Berliner Tempodrom, most of us will just have to settle into our sofas come Friday night, July 11, contented to watch the fashion production via Livestream (right here on InMotion starting at 20:15 CET).

What you won’t be able to see online is all the behind the scenes action that goes into creating a production of this magnitude. Think of StyleNite as a theater production with Michalsky as the producer and director. Every detail in the backdrop, every movement out on the catwalk, every performer taking to the stage; it’s a well-choreographed drama  aimed at bringing the clothing to life.

Inspired by the latest discussion around privacy while designing this collection, Michalsky chose ‘Important Secrets’ as the over-arching theme for StyleNite, which also includes the presentation of  Avant Garde designer Esther Perbandt’s latest collection and performances by British pop singer Rita Ora and the band Ballet School.

Once the theme and direction was chosen, the greater planning commenced. Orders of hundreds of cans of hairspray and bottles of champagne were placed, backdrop designed and construction, directions for rigging and lighting given, invitations sent.

The week before the show is filled with sleepless nights as everything begins to come together. Last Saturday, they started with the construction of the fitting rooms and photographers’ section. Model casting came next. Tuesday, the runway was delivered while the press arrived for a pre-show conference. Castings and fittings continued to ensure a seamless look out on the runway. The drinks and goodie bags arrived today as the red carpet tent was being constructed.

And that’s just the beginning. Stop by In Motion again tomorrow to see all the latest happenings as we prepare MICHALSKY StyleNite Spring/Summer 2015.
