Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix

Race behind the race

The 2026 season brings an important change to Spain’s role on the Formula 1 calendar. While Barcelona remains on the schedule, the official Spanish Grand Prix title moves to Madrid later in the year, where the new Madring circuit will make its Formula 1 debut in September. As a result, the race at Montmeló continues under the new Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix name.

From a logistics perspective, the move from Monaco to Barcelona is short in distance but complex in execution. After the unique space limitations of Monte Carlo, teams and the DHL Motorsports crew must quickly transition to the larger paddock environment in Montmeló. Equipment is transported by road across southern Europe, with precise timing required to ensure everything is race-ready for the following weekend.

After Barcelona, Formula 1 has a short break before the European run continues at the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, followed by Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Budapest before the summer break.
