Jones makes impact on Cape Town
Lee Jones is known for his pace, strength in the contact and an unquestionable eye for the try line – and he demonstrated all of these qualities at the HSBC Cape Town Sevens December 12 and 13. The Scottish winger was all over the pitch, with 15 carries, 7 line breaks, 4 offloads and 15 tackles.
The game was obviously coming my way [….] the team put me in good positions. I think I made a lot of tackles and got the points up there.

Impressive opening
Scottish Rugby couldn’t be more pleased with their decision to select Jones for the opening legs of the 2015/16 World Series in Dubai and South Africa. The 27-year-old not only won the DHL Impact Player Award in Cape Town, he also surpassed two milestones – the 250-point and 50-try mark – in the opening winner against Samoa on day two. In 24 caps, Lee now has 53 tries and 265 points
As a winger, it’s pretty much my job in a sevens team to break the line and to get our team going forward.

Impressive Bowl
After a rough start on day one, Scotland played brilliantly on day two to meet old foe and neighbor England in the Bowl final. Jones lit up the encounter to help his team to a dominating 19-0 win over the English. A stunning double stutter step to set up his fifth try of the weekend was one of many moments that made an impact.
Scottish Rugby was delighted with the Bowl victory.
“Can't really beat it,” said Scotland captain Scott Wight. “Getting England and turning them over is great. We've reaped the benefits of better defense this week. The boys’ attitude in the tackle has been magnificent.”
Impressive resume
Arguably, Jones’ rugby prowess lies in the abbreviated game. He made his international debut in sevens when Scotland opened their 2009/10 World Series campaign in Dubai and went on to be selected for the 2010 Commonwealth Games squad in Delhi.
He was named in his second Commonwealth Games squad when Stephen Gemmell included him in the Glasgow 2014, Team Scotland side. Across the two multi-sport events he has scored a whopping 14 tries.
The young Borderer earned his first full Scotland cap as the starting winger against England in the nation’s opening match of the 2012 RBS 6 Nations campaign at Murrayfield Stadium in front of a capacity crowd. To date he has won four caps for Scotland.
Lee has also played for Scotland under-18, under-19 and under-20 and the Borders’ under-16 and under-18 teams.
