The biggest and best Rugby Sevens Series yet

Excitement is mounting as the most-anticipated HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series ever kicks off in Dubai. With new destinations, record interest and Rio 2016 on the horizon, the vibrant men’s and women’s series are set to reach and inspire new audiences worldwide.

After nearly seven months, the wait is finally over and the 2015-16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is underway. And what a series awaits us – for the Men’s Series, ten iconic cities spanning the entire globe mark ten seminal stops on this year’s historic Rugby journey culminating at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

The 2015 Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is set to be the most impressive event in the history of the Tournament. It’s a rugby showcase complete with fun for the entire family where fans will also see the debut of DHL’s match ball delivery vehicle shuttling the ball onto the pitch before each game.

New places, new prospects
The 2015-16 season ushers in five new top destinations in Cape Town, Sydney, Vancouver, Singapore and Paris.

Cape Town is up next in only a week’s time, where the two-day event at state-of-the-art Cape Town Stadium is already sold out. Sydney will play host to Round Four February 6-7, 2016, at famous Allianz Stadium before the series moves to North America in March. There the Tournament will land on Canadian soil for the first time, with Round Six played out March 12-13 at BC Place in Vancouver, the world's largest air-supported domed stadium. A few weeks later Singapore’s National Stadium will host Round Eight April 16-17, and final newcomer Paris marks the ninth stop in the series May 14-15 before the final round in London May 21-22.

Rugby sevens is going from strength to strength ahead of the Olympic Games and the men's and women's series have been at the heart of the global sevens success story with their winning brand of high-octane, competitive and broadcast-friendly action, global locations and festival atmosphere.

Road to Rio
The Olympics have certainly been a driving factor behind the rise of Rugby Sevens on the international stage. Eleven of the 12 teams to compete for gold in Rio de Janeiro this coming August have qualified, with the final spot to be filled at a qualifying tournament in June. So the teams now have 10 rounds to fine-tune their game and maximize their fitness level before summer rolls around.

Since the International Olympic Committee approved the inclusion of Rugby in 2009, Olympic preparation has been building as nations around the world have been doubling their efforts in pursuit of the highest of all sport honors. Fiji, who beat South Africa to claim the 2014/15 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series crown, will be competing for their country’s first Olympic medal of any type.

Rugby Sevens is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most exciting Olympic sports and the Olympic countdown will only fuel that excitement.

A global partnership
We can hardly suppress the excitement ourselves – and we’re tremendously proud to be a part of another historic year of Rugby. As a Global Partner and the Official Logistics Partner of the Women’s and Men’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, we’ll be handling all freight and logistics across all ten rounds. It’s a role that builds on our previous sponsorships of individual tournament legs in the UAE, USA and Hong Kong.

In a first of many moves to come, DHL safely delivered the Men’s and Women’s Sevens Series trophies to Dubai for the event this weekend.

Our partnership with the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series reaffirms our commitment to a sport which shares many of our core values, such as teamwork, passion and a will to win. It’s a sport we’re proud to get behind and to deliver to new and existing fans across the globe beyond the four-year cycle of Rugby World Cup. And we hope to help nurture interest in, and a love for, the sport among fresh enthusiasts and potential stars of the future.
