Red Bull Air Race season finale rescheduled for Austria

Fans at the Austrian GP got an Air Race preview.
Hannes Arch is looking forward to competing in Austria.

The final race of the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Championship has been rescheduled for Spielberg, Austria, the country where the sport was born.

Red Bull Air Race announced this week that the final race of the season, originally scheduled to take place in China, will now take place in Austria at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, which hosted the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix last month.

It’s a fitting return: the very first Red Bull Air Race was held eleven years ago in Zeltweg, Austria – a town directly next to Spielberg in the Austrian Alps. It is the one and only time Red Bull Air Race has held a competition in Austria, but now the circuit returns to where it all began.

‘Flying on the Edge’ with Hannes Arch

For the current championship leader, Hannes Arch, the reschedule represents a chance to win the title in his home country.

"I think it's really great that the showdown for the 2014 season will be held in Austria," said Arch. "That corner of the world loves the race. We saw in Rovinj in April how many fans the sport has. It would be a dream come true for me if I can hold on to win the championship in my home country."

The rescheduled race in Austria is set to take place on October 25 and 26. The next race in Gdynia, Poland is just over a week away. Hannes Arch will be looking to increase his lead on defending champ Paul Bonhomme at the race that will mark the halfway point in the season.
