Although the FIA really tore up the rulebook this year and preseason testing has seen Team Red Bull playing catch-up, one only needs to mention Sebastian Vettel’s four consecutive World Drivers’ Championships – not to mention the team’s four consecutive Constructors’ titles – to be reminded of the German’s dominance. Vettel’s fast and furious 2013 season also saw him grab his second consecutive DHL Fastest Lap Award.

It’s a question on everyone’s mind. Watching Team Red Bull’s car troubles during preseason testing, first in Spain and most recently in Bahrain, is raising lots of eyebrows. After four years of dominance, it’s simply strange to see a Renault-powered race car –the RB10 this year – so far off the pace. But recent history tells us that the German wunderkind is still the man to beat.

The German even swept the second half of the 2013 season, taking every checkered flag from Belgium to Brazil.

After propelling itself into the big time with a fast RB5 and great drives by Vettel and then teammate Mark Webber in 2009, Team Red Bull made constant improvements to the car in 2010 to ultimately take both the drivers and constructors titles – and they haven’t looked back since. Vettel and RBs 7, 8 and 9 were nearly untouchable from 2011 to 2013. The German even swept the second half of the 2013 season, taking every checkered flag from Belgium to Brazil.

Stay tuned: F1 driver and DHL F1 Expert Christian Danner is back in 2014 to give us the inside track on the Fastest Lap at each of this year’s 19 circuits. Don't miss his tips and reviews right here on InMotion and at DHL's YouTube Channel.

In 2013, the race for the DHL Fastest Lap Award turned into a Red Bull Racing duel between teammates – and rivals – Vettel and Webber. At midseason, the Australian and 2011 Fastest Lap titleholder drew alongside the German at three apiece, only to watch the world champion pull away with three Fastest Laps in the first four races after the break. Despite piloting the perfect lap at super-fast, driver-favorite Suzuka Circuit in Japan and ending his Formula 1 career with the Fastest Lap in Brazil, Webber was ultimately unable to catch his teammate.

World Champion Sebastian Vettel set seven Fastest Laps – one more than in 2012 – in just one more in a long list of superlatives in 2013.

We’re excited to see what’s in store for this year’s battle for the DHL Fastest Lap. Stay tuned as former F1 driver and DHL F1 Expert Christian Danner is back trackside, giving us an insider’s view of the Fastest Lap at each of this year’s 19 circuits.
