World Champion Vettel wins DHL Fastest Lap Award 2013
DHL honored Sebastian Vettel with this year’s DHL Fastest Lap Award during a special ceremony at the final Grand Prix™ of 2013 in Brazil. Infiniti Red Bull Racing team completed the triple crown with the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship™ for Drivers and the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship™ for Constructors.
In a carbon copy of their dominant performance in 2012, Sebastian Vettel and Team Infiniti Red Bull Racing showed the world once again what consistent high performance and speed look like in Formula 1®. Led by Team Principal Christian Horner and Technical Chief Adrian Newey, both considered the best in the business, Red Bull put together a Renault-powered RB9 car that far outpaced the competition. On the road to his fourth consecutive title, Vettel was the picture of perfection, matching Schumacher’s record 13 wins in a season – with a record-breaking 9 checkered flags in a row – not to mention 9 poles and 7 fastest laps.
The DHL Fastest Lap is not just about recognizing one lap in a race. More importantly, it celebrates the hard work that goes on behind the scenes into honing the skills and reflexes to be the quickest, a quality that is very important to DHL.
The DHL Fastest Lap 2013 award was handed over by Joakim Thrane, Managing Director, DHL Express Brazil, and former Formula 1 driver and DHL Ambassador, Christian Danner.
“[We’re] delighted to once again hand over the DHL Fastest Lap Award to Sebastian Vettel and to be associated with another milestone in his record-breaking career. The DHL Fastest Lap is not just about recognizing one lap in a race. More importantly, it celebrates the hard work that goes on behind the scenes into honing the skills and reflexes to be the quickest, a quality that is very important to DHL,” said Joakim Thrane.
The German’s seven fastest laps – one more than in 2012 – certainly represent the icing on the cake in this season of superlatives. This year’s award winner is no stranger to the DHL Fastest Lap Award and its honors, having previously won the trophy in 2009 and 2012. He has now exceeded the tally of Finnish Lotus F1® Team driver Kimi Räikkönen, who won the award in 2007 and 2008, and has become the first driver to secure both the Drivers’ Championship and DHL Fastest Lap Award in two consecutive seasons. Vettel was the fastest driver on the circuits in Shanghai, Bahrain, Monaco, Belgium, Singapore, Korea and the US. He was followed in the DHL Fastest Lap 2013 ranking by Red Bull teammate Mark Webber, who set the fastest lap during five Grands Prix this season, including the final race of his F1 career in Brazil last week.
