Kimi Räikkönen takes DHL Fastest Lap in Sakhir

While the main feature of the 2017 FORMULA 1 VTB RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX was a battle for the win between Valtteri Bottas and Sebastian Vettel with the Mercedes driver coming out on top, the DHL Fastest Lap went to Kimi Räikkönen, who burned a time of 1:36.844 minutes into the asphalt on Lap 49.

Like most drivers, the third-placed Finn set his personal best time in the final phase of the race on the supersoft tire when the cars had only a small amount of gas in the tank and were speeding up.

Looking at the average of the ten fastest laps, however, Räikkönen's teammate, Vettel, was the fastest man on the track. The Ferrari driver maintained an average lap time of 1:37.582 minutes while hunting down Bottas.

“I had fresher tires in the end and was much faster, but it's incredibly hard to get close enough here,” said Vettel, explaining how he was able to close on Mercedes driver Bottas, who took his maiden Formula 1 win, but not overtake him.
