Lewis Hamilton takes DHL Fastest Lap in Sakhir
Fans were treated to an exciting scrap for victory between Ferrari and Mercedes in the 2017 FORMULA 1 GULF AIR BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX. While Sebastian Vettel went on to win this third race of the season, Lewis Hamilton posted the fastest race lap of 1:32.798 minutes and now leads from Kimi Räikkönen in the DHL Fastest Lap Award. Daniel Ricciardo posted the second-fastest lap time of 1:33.495 minutes. Räikkönen was third fastest with a 1:33.720.
Hamilton secured best time in the closing stages of the race on new soft tires as he hunted down Sebastian Vettel, drawing ever closer to the Ferrari driver. "I had good pace in the second and final stints, and we honestly thought we could catch Sebastian," said the Briton, who had to serve a five-second time penalty on his second pit stop. "The penalty made it twice as hard."
Hamilton pulled out all the stops to catch Vettel and was easily the fastest driver on the track. The Mercedes driver's ten fastest laps average out at 1:33.179 minutes, giving Hamilton a clear lead on Ferrari drivers Räikkönen (1:33.838) and Vettel (1:34.088).
