Bayern draw Aresenal, Dinamo Zagreb, and Olympiacos in CL group stage
With the Bundesliga season well under way, FC Bayern Munich can now begin preparing for their six matches in the group stage of the Champions League after the draw that fixed their opponents.
After the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday, Bayern Munich can be happy with the teams they will face over the next few months in the matches that determine who advances to the knock-out round of the competition.
Playing each side twice – once at home, once away – Bayern will face London’s Arsenal, Greek champions Olympiacos, and Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb in Group F. The winner and runner-up of each of the eight Champions League groups advances to the Round of 16, where the knock-out phase of the tournament begins.
“We can be happy with the draw, but we’ll have to focus and play well from the first match onwards," said FC Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after the draw.
Arsenal is by far Bayern’s toughest opponent in the group. The Gunners are one of the Premier Leagues best teams and will most likely compete with Bayern for the top spot in the group. They finished third in the Premier League last season behind winners Chelsea and second-place Manchester City.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern have won both of their matches - most recently a 2-1 victory against Hoffenheim. They face fellow Champions League participants Bayer Leverkusen at Munich's Allianz Arena on Saturday.
