DHL Exported Winner Nicholas K Opens NYFW
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York Spring/Summer 2015 opened earlier this week with a showing by New York based design team Nicholas K. The opening show in New York now for eight consecutive seasons, Nicholas K has become a hometown favorite of the local crowds at Lincoln Center. It was this popularity that helped earn them the support of DHL for two seasons as part of the DHL Exported program.
The program, created in collaboration with IMG Fashion helps up designers already established in their local market to expand their business on a global scale. Provided with slots at runway events in a new market – for Nicholas K that means a spot at the womenswear shows at Milan Fashion Week on September 17 – the program also includes export assistance and a shipping credit to ensure the collections get to the runway on time and in perfect condition.
For Nicholas K, a company founded in January 2003 by siblings Nicholas and Christopher Kunz, that support comes in especially handy as they move from the whirlwinds of New York Fashion Week to Milan with less than two weeks’ lead time. The Spring/Summer 2015 collection, inspired by Isabelle Eberhardt, a Swiss explorer in the late 1800s, used a muted color palette and safari details on its layers of fluid fabrics in a luxurious homage to the nature that Christopher says inspires all of her designs. From the 19th century-style bottlecap sunglasses to the Berber head wraps, the collection has already gained loads of attention on the American shows.
And now, Milan awaits! To follow Nicholas K’s journey as they now prepare for their Italian debut, including unique images from backstage, be sure to follow the DHL Exported social media channels: YouTube, Instagram,Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook.
