FORMULA 1 SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX 2025
Second DHL Fastest Pit Stop in a row for Yuki Tsunoda
The Singapore Grand Prix is perhaps best known for its searing heat with walls too close for comfort and sparks that fly up beneath star-filled skies. Teams normally opt for a one-stop strategy here at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, but new options have opened up with the recent pit lane speed increase from 60 km/h to 80 km/h.
However, Red Bull elected to stick with the more conservative one-stop approach for their man, Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver started the race from 13th on the softest of all the compounds, the C5. His team called him in, though, for an early tire swap after a disastrous first lap that saw him lose position in almost every turn.
He pitted on lap 13 of 62, bolting on a fresh set of hard tires. Red Bull’s mechanics were once again on top form, setting a pit stop time of 2.05 seconds, enabling the crew to secure their second consecutive DHL Fastest Pit Stop.
Tsunoda tried to fight his way up through the field over the remaining 49 laps but found overtaking tough, as the Marina Bay Street Circuit does not exactly favor such maneuvers. And so, he was out of luck in Singapore, which was only to be expected.
Tsunoda expressed his unhappiness with his performance after the race, saying: "My first lap was terrible. It was the most pathetic start of my whole life." However, he was still able to take something positive away with him from this race, as he told us: "I produced the best pace I’ve ever seen with Red Bull. My long run was real good!"
