Delivering the match ball at RWC 2015

DHL has searched the globe to bring 48 children from 42 countries to the UK for one unforgettable experience – to deliver the match ball to a Rugby World Cup 2015 game.

Starting this Friday, rugby fans from around the world will watch the top 20 rugby nations battle it out for their sport’s highest honor: the Webb Ellis Cup. With 40 pool and 8 knock-out matches, we have a lot to look forward to over the next six weeks.

48 matches also mean 48 opportunities for 48 lucky youngsters to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Rugby World Cup 2015. These chosen ones have more to look forward to than the rugby action on the pitch. They will deliver the official match ball onto the field of play before each match.

The search
DHL tapped into its global network to search far and wide for rugby-crazed kids around the world. And we found 48 enthusiastic and passionate young rugby players to be our rugby match ball ambassadors, proudly representing their countries and their local communities in front of millions of fans across the globe.

These lucky few were chosen in part through community partnerships with local rugby clubs. After all, since the early days of the game, rugby clubs have often been the center of local communities – a place for children and adults to gather, compete and socialize. And we’ve been involved in the great game of rugby for years, from the grassroots level all the way up to the World Rugby’s pinnacle event.

The stories
Our match ball delivery winners have some remarkable stories, and we’re going to be telling them in the run-up to and throughout the tournament. You’ll meet some of these kids, learn why the love the game and share their experiences as they travel to the UK and deliver the match ball onto the field.

Many of our winners have already been announced and right now they’re preparing for a never-to-be-forgotten trip to Rugby World Cup 2015. Watch the moment when they learned they were going to the UK and hear what they have to say about this exciting opportunity on our YouTube channel
