Hamilton new title contender

Webber set Fastest Lap in 1min 24.069sec in Lap 61

While Red Bull’s Mark Webber set the Fastest Lap, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton drove himself back into contention.

Lewis Hamilton’s downright perfect – and surprising – race weekend in the silver arrow makes him now a real contender for the 2013 Formula One Drivers’ Championship. By claiming his first victory this season – and a dominant one at that – the Brit moves into triple figures and fourth place on the drivers’ table. Hamilton is at 124 points, 48 behind reigning champion and current leader Sebastian Vettel.

“It is his first win this year, but there is still a long way to go and you can’t discount any of them,” said Red Bull Team Principal, Christian Horner.

The win was Hamilton’s 22nd Formula One victory, which puts him equal to fellow British champion Damon Hill. It was also the fourth time he has grabbed the checkered flag in Hungary, adding to his 2007, 2009 and 2012 wins.

Hamilton’s consistency at the Hungaroring is well known and in addition to his win he drove the third fastest lap in the race. So it’s not surprising that Danner had picked the Brit to race the Fastest Lap.
