Manchester Derby: Ready to be Legendary

Manchester United are on a high after recording four wins in the opening league matches and the Community Shield. This weekend’s eagerly awaited derby clash with Manchester City is a matchup of legendary proportions.

The start of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign has given fans a genuinely positive feeling. Wins in the first three opening matches make United one of only three teams still at 100% for the season. One of the others is none other than rival Manchester City, whom United faces this Saturday, September 10.

Both teams have started the Premier League well and the expectations are high, as everybody can imagine.

It’s already shaping up to be a classic derby. For only the second time in their history, the two sides have won their opening three league games in the same season (the first was in 2011/12). Each team has a unique chance to make its mark early and send a powerful message to the rest of the league.

“Both teams have started the Premier League well and the expectations are high, as everybody can imagine,” writes Juan Mata on manutd.com.

But he and the boys from Old Trafford are keeping calm, even amidst the untimely internationals break and some injury problems.

“All of us are fully aware that this is a very special game, yet we have to understand that these are three points and don’t get too crazy,” he adds.

It’s certainly going to be a clash of superstars – one that begins with two coaches of unrivalled pedigree in Mourinho and Guardiola, who have been league rivals before in Spain. On the pitch, United’s biggest transfer coup of the summer – Paul Pogba – is expected to shine as brightly as his 100-million-euro transfer diamond. Having played in bigger games like the Champions League and European Championship finals, he’s expected to be up to the task.

All of us are fully aware that this is a very special game, yet we have to understand that these are three points and don’t get too crazy.

With injuries and the internationals causing problems on both sides, not to mention Agüero’s suspension, the derby is certain to be a well-matched competition. And as far-fetched as it may sound, the match could even decide the Premier League champion at the end of the season. We can’t imagine a better stage for this highly anticipated match. Millions will be tuning in to watch their local heroes produce some legendary moments.

We’ll be watching, too. Good luck United!
