Gewandhausorchester

Gewandhausorchester Across Germany Presented by DHL

It’s been more than a decade since the Gewandhausorchester has played in Freiburg, but on Valentine’s Day 2015, the musicians debuted the German leg of their European Tour 2015 with a visit to the city’s Dreisam symphony hall.

After successful appearances in Brussels, Luxemburg and Madrid, the orchestra headed back north to Germany for rousing performances of Mahler, Mendelssohn, Tschaikovsky and Rachmaninoff in cities across the country.

With concerts planned in cities as far afield as Munich, Stuttgart, Dortmund and Cologne, the players will be cross-crossing Germany for the next ten days in order to bring their unique sounds directly to their fans. As Official Logistics Partner to the orchestra on their twelve-city, ten-venue Euro Tour 2015, DHL is well aware of the undertaking such a series of events presents.

Departing from Madrid after their last performance, the logistics team bringing the instruments to the musicians in Germany had to drive overland for nearly 15 hours, a route that took the drivers along northern Spain’s Atlantic coastline to avoid the potential snowstorms and windy roads of the French Pyrenees. With less than 48 hours between concerts, the delivery was planned months in advance to ensure that the musicians, already in Germany, were reunited with their invaluable instruments with plenty of time to practice and rehearse before performing in Freiburg.

It’s a feat that will be repeated shortly after the concert, when the orchestra’s supplies are taken to Italy for shows in Turin and Milan before returning to the northern side of the Alps for a show in Munich early next week. With DHL as Official Logistics Partner for six years already, the Gewandhausorchester can rest easy knowing that each show on the European Tour 2015 schedule will go off without a hitch. Or better yet, that they’ll leave their audiences on a high note before returning home to Leipzig.
