Antonelli and Mercedes are unstoppable in Monaco

Kimi Antonelli continued his winning streak on Sunday, claiming his first Monaco Grand Prix victory. With this fifth consecutive win, he extended his lead in the world championship to 66 points, while his team-mate George Russell failed to score any points in the Principality.

Antonelli defended his lead at the start and didn't relinquish it, not even on lap 37 when he turned into the pit lane for his first stop. His Mercedes crew matched his pace, sending him on his way in a lightning-fast 2.17 seconds, thereby securing the DHL Fastest Pit Stop. When the safety car came out on lap 60, Antonelli took the opportunity to grab fresh tires once again.

The safety car came in on lap 66, but it took only two laps before the red flag was waved. Antonelli also handled the standing restart perfectly and ultimately celebrated his first victory in the Principality. Lewis Hamilton and Isack Hadjar rounded out the podium.

"This track demands a lot of focus," said Antonelli afterwards. "You have to find the right balance between pushing and not making mistakes, and once you settle into that rhythm, everything starts to come together."
