FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2025
Long wait over for Red Bull as they record their first DHL Fastest Pit Stop of 2025 in race number 12
After the sweltering conditions of the Austrian Grand Prix, the Formula 1 teams had to contend with typical British summer weather at Silverstone. The changeable conditions meant hard work not only for the drivers, but also for the pit crews. The Red Bull mechanics performed best in these challenging circumstances, completing Yuki Tsunoda’s pit stop in just 2.06 seconds.
Tsunoda came into the pits on lap 11 to change to a new set of intermediates. The Red Bull crew were just six hundredths of a second off Ferrari’s best time of the season, which had been set in dry conditions. The DHL Fastest Pit Stop enabled Tsunoda to retain his lead over Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, who stopped a lap later.
This was Red Bull’s first DHL Fastest Pit Stop of the 2025 season, which is all the more surprising, given that the Milton Keynes-based outfit has won the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award every year since 2018. Although Red Bull have not been able to build on their past successes this season, the performance at Silverstone has resulted in a huge jump in the overall standings.
Thanks to the 25 points earned by Tsunoda’s 2.06-second stop and another 15 points earned by Max Verstappen’s third-fastest tire change, Red Bull scored a whopping 40 points, which moved them up from fifth to third in the overall standings. The gap to the second-placed McLaren team is 41 points.
Even though everything went perfectly for Tsunoda in the pits, his performance on the track left something to be desired - Max Verstappen’s team-mate finished the race outside the points. "When it comes to long runs, it’s something that is always outstandingly slow," said Tsunoda ruefully. "The rain pace was absolutely nowhere, a bit lost."
