DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award: 2017 FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
Ferrari take DHL Fastest Pit Stop in Baku
Ferrari at last got on the DHL Fastest Pit Stop scoresheet in the eighth race of the Formula 1 season. They sent Sebastian Vettel on his way in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2.62 seconds, faster than Red Bull by the narrowest of margins.
Daniel Ricciardo’s 2.64-second tire change was only slightly slower than Vettel’s, and Force India weren’t far behind either. Esteban Ocon was serviced in 2.68 seconds, making the Frenchman’s crew third fastest on the day.
Most of the drivers – including Vettel – completed their only scheduled stop of the race during the safety car deployment on Lap 12. In all, there were nine tire changes in Baku performed in under three seconds.
Ricciardo the beneficiary of penalties and problems
Two unscheduled pit stops ultimately decided the outcome of the race. Vettel was handed a ten-second stop-and-go penalty for deliberately ramming Lewis Hamilton, while the Briton had to stop and replace a loose headrest, which cost him valuable time.
Daniel Ricciardo won the first official running of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll, his first victory since the 2016 Malaysian GP.

In 2015, however, it was Romain Grosjean (then driving for Lotus) whose crew performed the fastest tire change in a time of 2.60 seconds.
