Congratulations, Lewis! Hamilton receives 2014 DHL Fastest Lap Trophy
Just before Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton sailed to victory in Abu Dhabi, sealing his 2014 Formula 1 Championship, DHL presented him with the 2014 DHL Fastest Lap Award.
VIDEO: See what Lewis Hamilton has to say about winning the 2014 DHL Fastest Lap Award after receiving it from DHL Express CEO Ken Allen.
It was short and sweet, but the now newly crowned 2014 Formula 1 Champion, Lewis Hamilton, was noticeably pleased to be named the fastest man of the season.
“It’s a beautiful trophy. This is what all the Formula 1 trophies should look like.” (Lewis Hamilton)
“Calm and focused”
Standing on the track just minutes before the start of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on a day he himself described as “the most important day of [his] life,” England’s favorite F1 pilot was relaxed and good humored. It definitely fit what he told his 2.8 million fans on Facebook just hours earlier: “I am calm and focused,” he posted.
“It’s about winning. You’ve got to be fastest to win.” (Lewis Hamilton)
Luck number seven
Hamilton piloted seven fastest laps this season on his way to the 2014 DHL Fastest Lap Award, beating his teammate and biggest challenger, Nico Rosberg, who scored five fastest laps. The now two-time Formula 1 World Champion (2008 & 2014) showed us time and again this season that he was the man to beat. After grabbing his first at the Malaysian Grand Prix back in March, he raced Fastest Laps at the British, German, Italian, Singapore, Japanese and Brazilian Grands Prix.
