Rugby World Cup 2015 – DHL Returns as Official Logistics Partner
Building on the huge success of Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand, DHL will again handle the logistics of the sport’s pinnacle event. First up: delivering the Webb Ellis Cup across the globe starting on October 26.
Today, DHL was named the Official Logistics Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015 by the International Rugby Board (IRB).
One of the world’s largest global sporting events, the Tournament is being hosted by England over six weeks in September and October 2015. England is one of four nations to have won the coveted Webb Ellis Cup over the Tournament’s 25-year history.
DHL has a long rugby heritage. In addition to the logistics behind Rugby World Cup 2011, “we are actively involved in Rugby the world over, both through flagship global partnerships such as this one and through our participation in local clubs and grassroots initiatives,” said Ken Allen, CEO, DHL Express. “We will be working hard behind the scenes to support and match the world class performance that fans will surely be treated to on the pitch.”
Three continents, five countries, one message
With just under two years to go until Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off, DHL is delivering the Webb Ellis Cup back to the IRB in Ireland, by way of a global journey across three continents and four countries – a tour that allows Rugby’s most coveted international trophy to visit each of the four past RWC-winning nations.
Beginning in New Zealand, home of the current champions – the All Blacks – on October 26, the Cup will travel to Australia, South Africa and England. Along the way DHL and Cup Chaperone – legendary All Black Grant Fox – will hand it over to former Rugby World Cup winning players from each country for local celebrations with fans. After a two-week layover in the 2015 Tournament’s host country, DHL will deliver the Cup to Dublin, Ireland, on November 18 for the inaugural IRB World Rugby Conference.
One thing is clear: a sport that is built on teamwork, passion and a will to win – values we strive to bring to life every day – is precisely one we want to support. We look forward to being a part of the scrum!
