MAGIC MOMENTS WITH RUGBY AND DHL IN 2014

With the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour currently in Italy and anticipation for Rugby World Cup 2015 mounting every day, let’s stop for a minute to take a look back at some of the magic moments of 2014.

2014 was an exciting year for both world rugby and DHL. England 2015 kicked off the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, DHL launched the Rugby vs. The World Challenge, Tackleman – our secret Rugby insider – globetrotted the world, and the Official Rugby World Cup Mobile App with DHL’s Great is in the Detail quiz was introduced.

Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour
With just 500 days to go to Rugby World Cup 2015, DHL joined Land Rover in early May 2014 to take the coveted Webb Ellis Cup on a world tour for tournament organizers England 2015. What better way to celebrate a global event like this than to go out on a world tour, right?

“DHL will get the trophy safely to each country and Land Rover will take it to places it has never been before.” (ER2015 in May 2014)

The Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour has been hopping around the globe ever since and will remain in the air and on the road until June of this year. Touching down in places like Australia, Fiji, Japan, Uruguay, China and most recently Italy, the iconic silverware of the Webb Ellis Cup is making the rounds at rugby clubs and schools as well as other events to give fans an opportunity to be a part of the great game of Rugby. The events have engaged, excited and inspired people around the world to play the game and celebrate rugby’s unique and global culture.

As part of the tour, we have been featuring a unique, fun-filled and light-hearted contest we’ve dubbed the Rugby vs. The World Challenge, which has been entertaining many and enhancing the sport of Rugby’s exposure at every stop along the way. Click here for videos and articles about each stop on the tour so far.

Tackleman
DHL’s secret rugby insider burst on the scene in the second half of the year. Named by @DHL_Rugby’s followers, Tackleman is a man of rugby distinction, travelling the world to tackle the latest news and provide insights behind-the-scenes as only an expert insider can tell. Our mystery man knows everyone who’s anyone across the game and he’s blogging, tweeting and posting his way to Rugby World Cup 2015.

No one knows his real identity, but rest assured he knows his stuff

With one year to go to Rugby World Cup 2015, Tackleman introduced himself to the world in his very first blog post. Though his identity shall forever remain a secret, Tackleman let everyone know that he was there with his ear to the ground to give fans the inside track on rugby, wherever the stories are happening. One month later, he typed excitedly about the looming southern invasion as the Kiwis, Wallabies, Springboks and Pumas travelled north for some international friendlies – and explained why “they’re not friendlies!” In December, Tackleman penned his final post of 2014. Read his festive end of the year review here.

DHL Great is in the Detail quiz
We rang out a decidedly busy year by integrating our DHL Great is in the Detail quiz into the newly launched Official Rugby World Cup Mobile App. The quiz can also be played on GWC 2015’s website. Every week, we invite you to test your knowledge of some of the greatest moments in Rugby World Cup history. Contestants answer the quiz question, watch a video highlight and then tweet their thoughts to #Tackleman to be entered into a weekly prize draw to win some fantastic rugby prizes. Tackleman shares the best comments and reveals each week’s winners every Wednesday on @DHL_Rugby. It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s our way of paying tribute to those magic memorable moments that make the sport of Rugby great!
