DHL and Kalitta Fastest Partnership in NHRA
The NHRA Mellow Yellow Drag Racing Series got off to a sizzling start last week at historic Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California. The Kalitta team, owned by racing icon Connie Kalitta, features the DHL Toyota Camry nitro-fueled Funny Car, driven by seasoned drag racing champion Del Worsham.
Team Kalitta Motorsports got a jumpstart on the competition as Del Worsham, who pilots the DHL Toyota Camry nitro-fueled Funny Car, finished third in the Funny Car standings after the first of 24 events in the 2014 National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Mellow Yellow Drag Racing Series.
DHL has been sponsoring the Kalitta Motorsports Funny Car in the NHRA’s premier event since 2007.
The NHRA Mellow Yellow Drag Racing Series provides a unique fan experience unlike any other major sporting event, giving spectators high accessibility.
A motorsports extravaganza
The 10-month, coast-to-coast motorsports extravaganza offers the most geographically diverse motorsport schedule in the United States. In 2013, the championship expanded into New England with the race in New Hampshire. A hugely popular motorsport in the US, up to 125,000 spectators attend each event, with another 1 million television viewers each race weekend.
The series provides a unique fan experience unlike any other major sporting event, giving spectators high accessibility. The so-called Nitro Alley and Midway areas are open to all spectators in attendance, allowing them to connect one-on-one with the race teams and their partners.
Kalitta Motorsports is one of the most successful teams in the history of auto racing with five world championships and over fifty national event titles.
Kalitta and DHL go way back
Kalitta Motorsports is a Top Fuel and Funny Car drag racing team founded and owned by drag racing legend Connie Kalitta. For more than fifty years, Connie has been involved in the sport as a driver, tuner and owner. Kalitta Motorsports is one of the most successful teams in the history of auto racing with five world championships and over fifty national event titles in five different professional drag racing sanctioning bodies since it was established in 1959.
Connie Kalitta and DHL have partnered on multiple levels for over 25 years starting in 1987. As owner and founder of Kalitta Air, he made his first DHL trip from New York to Europe. Kalitta Air currently has four dedicated DHL-branded 747-400 series planes in a network operation program that encompasses Cincinnati, Germany, Bahrain, Hong Kong, India and Anchorage.
DHL’s partnership with Kalitta Motorsports adds to a prominent list of world-class motorsports partnerships like Formula 1, WTCC, WEC and this year’s new Formula E World Championship.
In 2007, DHL and Kalitta expanded their relationship to include motorsports and began sponsorship of the DHL Funny Car. The partnership has been a successful one, including top-ten finishes in points in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
