Red Bull take DHL Fastest Pit Stop in Abu Dhabi
Red Bull Racing exceled themselves to mark the end of the 2017 Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi by producing perfect teamwork and executing the DHL Fastest Pit Stop. Red Bull equipped Max Verstappen with new tires in 2.15 seconds, easily beating Williams, who notched up the second-fastest stop of the race with a time of 2.49 seconds. Ferrari performed the third-fastest stop in 2.50 seconds.
Due to the low level of tire wear at the Yas Marina Circuit, drivers opted for a one-stop strategy with the exception of Lance Stroll, who stopped three times. 17 of the 22 pit stops took less than three seconds, which is a fine testament to the crews’ very strong performance at the end of a long season.
Mercedes presented with the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award
Mercedes were presented with the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award before the race. Following wins by Ferrari and Williams, the Silver Arrows are now the third team to have won this prestigious trophy. Mercedes beat Williams by 472 points to 442. Red Bull Racing were third with 344 points.
“The pit-stop is a crucial moment of the race and can make the difference between winning and losing,” said Ross Brawn, Managing Director, Motorsports at Formula 1. “It’s not only a matter of how fast a crew can change the tires each race, but also how consistent they are throughout the season. By winning the 2017 DHL Fastest Pit Stop, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team proved to be the most consistent and the best in class this season, so congratulations to them!”
The trophy was presented by Nour Suliman, CEO DHL Express Middle East and North Africa. “Formula 1 races demand exceptional teamwork and the utmost concentration from everyone involved, as just fractions of a second can determine victory or defeat,” he said. “This passion is the pivotal link in our longstanding, successful partnership: We love what we do and we always want to deliver top performance.”
